Path of Exile 2 Full Release After ExileCon – Patch 0.5.0 to Be Last Early Access Update

Path of Exile 2 exits early access after ExileCon (Nov 7–8). Patch 0.5.0 is the last EA update. Return of the Ancients launches May 29. Full details.

Game director Jonathan Rogers confirms full release “a little bit after ExileCon.” Some classes and swords may not make 1.0, but endgame overhaul is massive.

Grinding Gear Games is finally ready to take Path of Exile 2 out of early access. Full breakdown – patch 0.5.0, Return of the Ancients, full release timeline, missing features, and what it means for players.

🔄 Patch 0.5.0 – The Last Early Access Update

Rogers confirmed that patch 0.5.0 will be the final early access milestone before version 1.0. Between now and then, players can expect:

  • Mini leagues (possibly one or two) alongside balance updates.
  • All current classes will receive their missing Ascendancies.
  • The last campaign Acts will go live.

However, not everything will make it to 1.0.

“I want to get this game finished. I really, really do. It’s definitely something that I’ve been looking forward to for a very long time. So I want to just get back to regular league development and not have all this other stuff going on.”

What may be missing at full release:

  • Some of the promised new classes will not be ready.
  • Swords – a long standing community request – may also be delayed past 1.0.

Rogers is prioritizing getting the game out over adding every single feature. Regular league development (the Path of Exile live service model) will resume after launch.

🌟 Return of the Ancients – May 29 (Massive Endgame Overhaul)

Before the full release, players get Return of the Ancients – arguably the biggest content drop since early access began.

Rogers did not give a specific date for 1.0, but the window is clearly late 2026.

⚠️ What’s Missing – Honest Expectations

Not all promised content will be ready for 1.0. Players should temper expectations:

  • New classes beyond current roster – likely delayed post launch.
  • Swords – may not appear until after full release.

However, the core endgame, all Acts, and all Ascendancies for existing classes will be complete.

💬 BuyCarry Team’s Take

At BuyCarry, we help players navigate complex ARPGs – and Path of Exile 2 is one of the most demanding. The news of a full release by the end of 2026 is exciting, but the missing features (swords, additional classes) may disappoint some.

What we like:

  • Clear timeline. GGG is committing to a 2026 full release – no more “when it’s ready” vagueness.
  • Return of the Ancients looks like a genuine endgame fix. Easier onboarding means more players will reach endgame – and need our help.
  • Mini leagues between now and release keep the game fresh.

What we’re cautious about:

  • Missing content at 1.0 – swords and promised classes may not arrive until 2027. Some players will feel the game is incomplete.
  • Tight timeline. Balancing 0.5.0, Return of the Ancients, and full release in six months is ambitious.
  • Post release support. Rogers wants to move to regular league development, but early post launch patches are critical.

For our clients:

  • Need help mastering the new endgame after May 29? Our boosters will map out the best farming routes.
  • Waiting for swords or a specific class? You may be waiting until 2027. In the meantime, we can help you optimize existing builds.
  • Want to be ready for full release? We offer early access coaching to ensure you hit the ground running at 1.0.

Final verdict: Path of Exile 2’s full release is finally on the horizon. The road is bumpy – delayed features, massive endgame overhaul, and a tight schedule – but GGG has earned trust over the years. If you’re a fan, stick with it. If you need help, we’re here.
