Windrose Tops April Sales with 1.7M Copies, Beating Crimson Desert & Pragmata

Windrose sold 1.7 million copies in April, topping the charts ahead of Crimson Desert (1.6M) and Pragmata (2M lifetime). Switch 2 sales not included.

Alinea Analytics reports that the pirate adventure game in Early Access outsold March’s hit Crimson Desert – but Pragmata’s total is higher when all platforms count.

April 2026 was packed with major releases: Pragmata, Saros, Invincible Vs., and the Early Access launch of pirate adventure Windrose. But according to a new report from Alinea Analytics, only one of these games approached the top of the sales charts – and it wasn’t the one many expected.

🏴‍☠️ Windrose – The Surprise Hit

Windrose is a pirate adventure game that launched into Early Access on April 17, 2026. It had no major pre‑release hype compared to Pragmata or Crimson Desert, yet it captured the top spot.

Why it matters:

  • Early Access titles rarely top monthly sales charts against full AAA releases.
  • Being Steam‑only makes the achievement even more impressive.
  • It suggests strong word‑of‑mouth and player retention.

“It will be interesting to see how Windrose performs as the year progresses, and whether it becomes another Early Access favorite that takes the world by storm long before version 1.0.”

⚔️ Crimson Desert – Still Strong in Second

Crimson Desert launched in March 2026 and sold over 5 million copies in its first month. One month later, it’s still moving 1.6 million units – a very healthy tail. Pearl Abyss’s ongoing patches (including the recent 1.06.00 with bear taming and extraction) are clearly keeping players engaged.

🎮 Pragmata – Fourth Place, But Don’t Be Fooled

At first glance, Pragmata in fourth place might look underwhelming. But there are two crucial caveats:

  • Lifetime sales reached 2 million (announced by Capcom just days after the report).
  • Nintendo Switch 2 sales are not included in Alinea’s chart. Pragmata was a launch title for Switch 2, and those numbers are missing entirely.

If Switch 2 sales were included, Pragmata could have challenged for the top spot. Still, fourth place for a new IP is respectable – especially in a month with so many strong releases.

💬 BuyCarry Team’s Take

At BuyCarry, we track sales and player engagement to understand where demand for boosting and coaching will go. This sales data tells an interesting story.

What we take away:

  • Windrose is one to watch. If it follows the Valheim or Dave the Diver trajectory, demand for guides and assistance will surge.
  • Crimson Desert has legs. 1.6 million in its second month is excellent. Our Crimson Desert services (mounts, bosses, extraction) will remain in demand.
  • Pragmata is not a failure. Fourth place without Switch 2 numbers is strong. As more players buy Switch 2, Pragmata’s sales will climb.
  • Early Access is a valid launch strategy. Windrose proves you don’t need a 1.0 release to top charts.

For our clients:

  • Interested in Windrose? We’re building guides and coaching services for it.
  • Need help with Crimson Desert’s endgame or Pragmata’s hard mode? We’re here.
  • Want to know which games are worth your time based on player activity? Follow our blog.

Final verdict: April 2026 was a fantastic month for new IPs. Windrose surprised everyone, Crimson Desert held strong, and Pragmata is quietly building a player base. The sales charts don’t tell the whole story – but they tell us where the players are.
