Update 1.06.00 for Crimson Desert added a brand new permanent mount: the Leaping Kuku Bird. Unlike horses or even the new special mounts (bears, raptors), you can’t just tame a wild Kuku Bird by feeding it meat. The ones you see running around with the Blinding Arrows are called “Fleeting” versions – they’re not tameable.
🥚 Step 1: Get the Kuku Bird Egg
| Detail | Information |
| Location | Inside a tower at Bloodsteel Camp, Steel Mountains |
| Region | South part of the border between Hernand and Demeniss |
| Nearby landmark | Behind where you defeat Bradie Gu (leader of the Blinding Arrows) |
The tower has a small trapdoor. You’ll need to use Cling → Resist → Force Palm to open it (Oongka or Damiane can use the same input as Force Palm). Inside, you’ll find the egg in a makeshift nest, plus a Leaping Kuku Bird Research Journal on a nearby table that explains the next steps.

“You may need to clear out the Blinding Arrows before you can get the egg or the journal.”
Step 2: Reunite the Egg with Its Mother’s Nest
You can’t just place the egg in any Kuku Bird nest. It has to be the specific nest where its mother laid it.
| Detail | Information |
| Nest location | Beneath a dead tree near the cliff east of Bloodsteel Camp |
| Visual clue | The nest is perfectly sized for the egg and looks well‑built (not like the smaller stick nests on Rocca’s Hill) |
| How to place | Press the Use button (A / SPACE / ✖) on the egg in your inventory. It will look like it was consumed, but you’ll actually be holding it when you exit the inventory |
“It does not work to take the egg to any Kuku Bird nest; it has to be this one.”
Once placed, parts of the egg will begin to glow faint red and eventually start wobbling.

🐣 Step 3 – Hatch the Egg (No Pickaxes!)
When the egg is ready to hatch, a prompt will appear. Do not swing your pickaxe or any weapon at it.
| Do | Don’t |
| Stand close to the egg | Hit it with any tool or weapon |
| Press the interaction prompt (E / etc.) | Walk away before it hatches |
The hatching doesn’t take very long. Upon hatching, the Leaping Kuku Bird is automatically registered as a Special Mount. You may need to unsummon and resummon it before you can ride.
🎮 Mount Equipment & Stats
| Feature | Detail |
| Default headgear | Egg Helm (already equipped on hatch) |
| Saddle | Can be purchased from Calphade Saddlery for 28 Silver after completing Chapter VI: Cracks in the Shield |
| Slot conflict | Egg Helm and Saddle use the same equipment slot – choose one |
| Defense | Saddle provides slightly more defense than the Egg Helm |
| Special ability | Leaping Kuku Birds can land gracefully from any height – no fall damage. Excellent for mountain traversal |

“Their li’l wings enable them to land with grace and poise after a fall from any height, making them an excellent choice for traversing mountains.”

💬 BuyCarry Team’s Take
The Kuku Bird is one of the more unusual mounts in Crimson Desert – a flightless bird that’s surprisingly good at falling. The egg hunt is fun, the nest location is specific (but not impossible), and the hatching animation is adorable.
What we like:
- No combat required – just exploration and a gentle hand.
- No fall damage – makes mountain exploration stress‑free.
- Unique look – not another horse or bear. You’ll stand out.
What we’d improve:
- The saddle and Egg Helm share a slot – a weird design choice. Most players will want both.
- Only one color available (crimson) – but smaller Kuku Birds come in rainbow colors, so maybe future updates will add more.
For our clients:
- Don’t want to hunt for the egg or wait for hatching? We offer full mount collection services.
- Confused about the trapdoor or nest location? Our coaches can guide you live.
- Need help completing Chapter VI to unlock the saddle? We offer story progression boosts.
Final verdict: A charming, low‑stress mount. Perfect for collectors and mountain climbers. The Egg Helm is goofy and great. Go hatch one – or let us do it for you.
