💭 A Personal Reflection from a Day‑One Guardian

I’ve been playing Destiny since the very beginning. I remember the first time I loaded into the Cosmodrome, a little Lightless Guardian with no idea what I was doing. I remember the first time I saw the Vault of Glass open, the first time I heard “Guardians make their own fate.”

Over twelve years, this game has given me more than loot and light levels. It gave me people. I’ve met friends in raids who I still talk to every week. I’ve stayed up until 4am trying to beat a day-one raid, laughing and yelling with a fireteam that felt like family. I’ve watched Guardians come and go, seen clan rosters fill up and fade out, but the memories remain.

This news hits harder than I expected. I knew this day would come eventually. Every live-service game has its sunset. But seeing it in writing, knowing that June 9 is the last real update… it’s heavy.

I’m grateful. Grateful for the late nights, the flawless runs, the wipes at 1% health, the loot that never dropped, the “one more run” that turned into ten. Grateful for Bungie – for building a world that felt alive, for the music, the lore, the gunplay that no other game has ever matched.

But life moves forward. Studios evolve. Games change. And so do we.

I’ll be there on June 9. I’ll run the Monument of Triumph, do one last Pantheon, race a Sparrow one more time. And then I’ll log off, not with sadness, but with gratitude.

Thank you, Bungie. Thank you, fellow Guardians. It’s been a hell of a journey.

Per Audacia Ad Astra – through boldness to the stars.

  • Day-one raid races and the collective community problem-solving.
  • The live-service energy that made logging in feel meaningful.

What we appreciate:

  • Bungie is being transparent and graceful. No sudden shutdown – just a gentle sunset with servers left on.
  • Monument of Triumph is packed with fan requests: SRL, True Exotic transmog, Pantheon 2.0, and more.
  • The game will remain playable. You can revisit your favorite raids anytime.
