Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked – New Legend Axle, Deathbox Respawns & Chain Healing

Legends! Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked adds Axle (movement Skirmisher), Deathbox Respawns, Chain Healing, Vantage/Conduit buffs, and map changes. Respawn overhauls solo queue matchmaking, removes Tridents, and introduces a risk‑reward respawn mechanic. Plus: new mythic melee and major legend tuning. Here’s your full patch breakdown.

Season 29 of Apex Legends, titled Overclocked, is here. Respawn Entertainment is addressing long‑standing player feedback with a mix of bold new mechanics, a brand‑new movement Legend, significant legend tuning, and map adjustments.

⚡ Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked – Axle, Deathbox Respawns, and Big QoL Changes

1. New Legend: Axle – The Combat Racer

RoleSkirmisher
Passive – DriftIncreased slide control, faster slide acceleration, better lateral movement.
Tactical – Nitro GateDeploys a speed gate that forces anyone (friend or foe) into a boosted slide with high velocity and control for up to 5 seconds. Axle gets extra slide control.
Ultimate – KickstartFires a ground‑skimming drone that seeks the nearest enemy. On impact, it knocks targets into the air, deals explosive damage, and briefly stuns them.

Upgrades: Level 2 offers a second tactical charge or second ultimate charge. Level 3 adds a double‑jump to the Nitro Gate or a perk that pulls bullets from inventory while sliding (up to half a magazine).

Ax1

“Axle transforms the battlefield into her racetrack.”

Our take: Axle looks like a high‑skill, high‑reward Legend. The team‑agnostic tactical gate adds chaos (enemies can use it too), and the ultimate is a strong displacement tool. Expect her to dominate high‑level play.

2. Major Gameplay Updates

Deathbox Respawns

  • Time: 7 seconds (loud and visible – clear the area first).
  • Gear return: Any unlooted weapons/gear automatically go back to the respawned player.
  • Lockout timer: Each death increases the time before another deathbox respawn. Staying alive resets it.

Respawn Beacon Dropship Changes

  • Dropship arrives faster – respawned players re‑enter the game sooner.
  • Dropship hovers longer afterward, making the respawn visible to the lobby for longer.

Chain Healing

  • Off: disabled.
  • Single (default): queue one extra heal manually.
  • Auto: continuously queue the same heal until full or out of items.

Solo Queue Matchmaking (later this split)

Solo players will match against opponents of a slightly lower skill tier in both Ranked and Unranked to offset the advantage of premade squads.

3. Legend Updates – Buffs and Nerfs

LegendSummary
VantageBig buffs: passive generates ult bullets, tactical cooldown reduced (20s→17s), double jump range increased, canted sight mode added (faster rechamber/ADS), normal scope 3x→4x.
ConduitBase kit now has two tactical charges (was an upgrade). Regen duration 9s→6s, regen per second 20→15. New upgrades: Instant Barrier (partial shield instantly) and Enduring Barrier (shield persists through damage).AlterNerfs: tactical cooldown 20s→25s, ultimate range 300m→250m, recall time increased (2s→3s for self, 3s→4s for allies), chase portal open time 6s→4s. Upgrade movement speed reduced.
AshSmall buff: passive cooldown 12s→10s, velocity 425→450. “Giving her a little zip back.”

B&napex

Our take: Vantage could become meta – the canted sight makes her sniper viable in close fights. Conduit’s double charge baseline is huge. Alter was over‑performing; these nerfs seem reasonable. Ash players will be happy with the revert, but it’s not a full restoration.

4. Map Changes – Tridents Removed, Ziprails Cut

  • Storm Point & Olympus: Tridents removed entirely.
  • Broken Moon: Most rotational ziprails removed (remaining ziprails are within POIs). Added two redeploy balloons on the west side and two new rotation options north of Stasis Array / west of Terraformer.

Map (2)

“We want squad compositions and Legend choices to really matter when it comes to how teams traverse.”

Our take: This is a massive shakeup. No more silent ziprail third parties on Broken Moon. No more Trident cheese. Rotations will rely more on Legend abilities (Valk, Octane, Pathfinder, now Axle). Expect a slower, more tactical pace.

5. Weapons & Care Package

  • C.A.R. returns to floor loot (removed Galvanic Gavel hop‑up, mag sizes increased slightly).
  • L‑STAR enters care package (damage 19→20, new Redline hop‑up: increased damage and projectile size near overheating).
  • Light ammo stack size reduced from 72 to 60 (nerf to light ammo weapons overall).
  • Hemlok Breach AR nerfs: breach charge cooldown 15s→25s, damage 23→22, mag size -2, recoil increased.

6. New Mythic Universal Melee: Twin Razors

Rotating laser blades available in Overclocked Seasonal Packs (not all regions). Works on any Legend.

7. Ranked & Matchmaking

  • Ranked Ladders (limited‑time events) run on weekends from May 14 to June 21.
  • Reset seeding fixed – players near tier boundaries will no longer be placed inconsistently.

8. Bug Fixes & Quality of Life

  • Newcastle ultimate now destroys Catalyst reinforcements properly.
  • Revenant can no longer cancel tactical early to shoot faster.
  • Vantage spotter’s lens no longer prioritizes Mirage decoys poorly.
  • Firing Range: infinite healing toggle, self‑revive toggle, rebuild hardlight button. Nessies are back.
  • CPU performance improved (reduced stutters, especially on Ryzen X3D).
  • Individual voice chat volume sliders per squad member.

💬 BuyCarry Team’s Take

Season 29 Overclocked is one of the most experimental updates in Apex history. Respawn is willing to take risks – removing Tridents, gutting ziprails, adding a dangerous respawn mechanic – and that’s refreshing.

What we love:

  • Deathbox Respawns add a high‑risk, high‑reward layer to endgame fights. Teams that wipe a squad can instantly reset before third parties arrive. This will change competitive pacing.
  • Chain Healing is a pure QoL win. No more frantic button mashing.
  • Axle looks incredibly fun. Her movement ceiling will be high, and the team‑agnostic gate creates hilarious and chaotic moments.
  • Solo queue changes are long overdue. Premade squads have dominated for years; this should level the playing field.

What we’re cautious about:

  • Removing Tridents and ziprails may slow down the game too much for casual players. We’ll see if the player base adapts or complains.
  • Axle’s tactical being usable by enemies means you could accidentally help your opponents escape. Expect friendly‑fire frustration.
  • The light ammo stack nerf will hurt weapons like the R‑301 and R‑99. Players may shift to heavy or energy.

Final verdict: Overclocked is bold. Some changes will be controversial, but overall it’s a step toward making Apex more strategic and less reliant on passive map tools. Give it a week before judging – then call us if you need a boost.
