Marathon Season 2 Next Week – New Sentinel Shell, Night Marsh Map, Cradle System & Full Reset

Marathon Season 2, titled “Nightfall,” begins next week on June 2, 2026. Bungie’s extraction shooter is getting a substantial update, including a new Runner Shell (Sentinel), a dark rework of Dire Marsh called Night Marsh, a new account‑wide progression system called the Cradle, new weapons, mods, chips, vault expansion, and a full seasonal reset.

“Nightfall” brings a dark Dire Marsh variant, a defensive trap‑focused Runner, and a brand‑new account‑wide progression system.

🚀 Marathon Season 2 Next Week – Sentinel, Night Marsh, and the Cradle

1. Seasonal Reset – What Gets Wiped

At the start of Season 2, nearly everything resets:

Resets to ZeroNotes
Runner Level
Faction Levels
Faction Upgrades
Faction Contracts
Credits
InventoryEntire stash and vault wiped

“Season 2 also marks a near full reset with the end of Season 1.”

Why it matters: Everyone starts fresh. The playing field is level. New and returning players have the same opportunity as veterans.

2. New Runner Shell – Sentinel (Defensive / Trap‑Focused)

Sentinel is the first new Runner Shell since launch, designed to counter aggressive players and UESC forces.

AbilityTypeEffect
Defender SystemPrime AbilityDeployable device that destroys incoming grenades and projectiles (limited charges). Nearby crewmates gain improved weapon handling.
Snare MineTacticalThrowable, sticky proximity mine that fires slowing goo projectiles when triggered.
Castle DoctrineTrait 1After taking explosive damage, gain increased resistances. When surrounded by enemies, close‑range small arms weapons gain increased ready and reload speeds.
Prey TrackerTrait 2Activate a short‑range motion tracker on HUD that reveals moving enemies.

5. Implant Rework – Perks Over Stats

Implants are being reworked significantly:

BeforeAfter
Implants focused on stat bonusesEmphasis on perks they provide
Stats variedFixed array of stats that scale with rarity
Still limited to head, torso, leg slotsSame slot limits

Implants are now named after the perk they grant, making it clearer what they do.

6. Vault & Inventory – More Space, Batch Selection

FeatureChange
Max vault slotsIncreased to 512 (fully upgraded)
Batch selectionNew feature – select multiple items at once

Batch selection will be especially useful for the new Cradle system (converting unwanted gear into XP).

7. The Cradle – New Account‑Wide Progression System

Faction Upgrades that provided stat boosts are replaced by The Cradle. This is a shared progression system across all Runner Shells.

CategoryStats Affected
StrengthMelee Damage, Finisher Siphon
RechargePrime Recovery, Tactical Recovery
DexterityAgility, Loot Speed

How It Works

  • Earn Cradle Level by converting unwanted gear into Cradle XP (batch selection helps here).
  • Allocate points to increase stats and unlock additional benefits at certain thresholds.
  • Freely re‑allocate points as much as you want to suit your build.
  • Progress resets at the end of every season.

10. BuyCarry Team’s Take

Season 2 is a massive reset for Marathon, both mechanically and progression‑wise. The Cradle system is the standout – it gives purpose to every piece of gear you extract. Free re‑specs encourage experimentation. The seasonal reset keeps veterans from snowballing forever.

What we love:

  • Sentinel – a much‑needed defensive option against aggressive players.
  • Night Marsh – atmospheric, tense, and mechanically fresh.
  • Cradle progression – shared across all Runners, respec any time.
  • Vault expansion to 512 slots – finally, enough space.
  • Batch selection – a small but huge QoL win.

For our clients:

  • Need help grinding Cradle XP fast? We have optimized conversion routes.
  • Want to master Sentinel’s trap placement? Our coaches can teach you.
  • Looking to rank up quickly after the reset? We offer fresh season boosting.

Final verdict: Season 2 is exactly what Marathon needed – a reset, fresh content, and a meaningful progression overhaul. The darkness mechanics and hallucination threats add genuine tension. Jump in on June 2 – or let us carry you through the new season.
